This week we have been learning more about the numbers one, two and three. Following the White Rose Scheme of Learning, it’s me, 1, 2, 3 alongside NCETM Numberblocks. In phonics we have been applying our taught skills, focusing on word segmenting, blending, and reading captions. We have been discussing remembrance and Diwali during our whole class discussions. And we have been enjoying reading different versions of the story Jack and the Beanstalk, noticing differences and similarities. And just by coincidence as I was clearing out a cupboard after school, I came across a jar of what looked like beans? We decided together that we would put some into pots of compost, some into jars filled with damp cotton wool and Mrs Smith turned into a furious Jacks mother and threw five beans on to the top field at lunch time. Next week we will be encouraging the children to make observational drawings and write some labels. Though if the beans are magic like Jack’s we may need a change of plan.
