Helping your Child with Home Learning
Home learning is an integral part of learning. Beyond the chance to practice and reinforce what children have learned in class, it’s also an opportunity to develop independent study and application- and character traits like perseverance.
Parents involvement makes a big difference, from the very earliest stage. In early years parents can support their child’s development through story telling, singing and reading together.
Later on, home learning should not generally require adult help, and with today’s busy lives it certainly can be hard to find the time. But we know as parents/carers that we are called in as reinforcements if a task is especially challenging. Other times, it falls to parents/carers just to give encouragement and support.

Remote Education
Remote education will only be considered as a last resort when in-person attendance is not possible, or when government guidance advises against it. Fir Bank will implement remote education strictly as a short-term measure, only when children are unable to attend school in person.
Where possible, remote education will follow the same curriculum as in-person lessons. To support children remotely, we will employ a variety of approaches, including:
- Live online lessons
- Pre-recorded lessons (via platforms such as Class Dojo/Microsoft Teams)
- Resource packs
- Home reading (through books or online texts)
- Project work
For children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, our SENDCo, Deputy SENDCos, or teaching assistants will maintain regular contact to ensure all necessary support is provided.
In the event of a school closure, children are required to log into Microsoft Teams to access live lesson or Class Dojo. Please contact the school office if you require further support.
In the case of a closure due to adverse weather or unsafe site conditions, an announcement will be made on the school website and social media platforms by 7:30am. Where necessary, parents/carers will also be informed via text message or phone call.
